Weather policies
Extreme Heat Policy
Player safety starts with proper hydration before and during the game. If the heat index is 105°F or higher at the field 2–3 hours prior to the game, the game must be canceled and rescheduled. Notify referees promptly to avoid unnecessary fees. If referees arrive before the game is canceled, payment is still required. Check the heat index online through local weather websites, the Weather Channel, or smartphone apps.
For extreme heat with a heat index below 105°F, games can still be canceled at the discretion of the organizers. If the game proceeds, ensure players have access to cold water, ice towels, and shade. Bring extra water and encourage parents to bring umbrellas for shade. Allow players to rest in shaded areas when off the field.
During the game, work with referees and coaches to schedule 1–2 minute running-time water breaks as needed in each quarter.
After the game, remind players to hydrate by drinking two glasses of water per hour for several hours.
When in doubt, prioritize the safety of players, fans, coaches, and referees.

Recommended Guidelines
Up to 89°: Normal Play
90° - 99°: Mandatory 2-minute water breaks per half with running time. Each half shortened by 5 minutes.
100° - 105°: Mandatory 2-minute water breaks per half with running time. Each half shortened by 10 minutes.
105°+: Suspend play.
Lightning Policy
If the time between a lightning flash and thunder is less than 30 seconds, all individuals must immediately leave the field and seek shelter in a safe location. The field should remain cleared until 30 minutes have passed without any additional lightning or thunder. If further activity occurs, the 30-minute clock resets. During delays, coaches are responsible for ensuring all team members are safely inside vehicles or permanent structures.
Games may be suspended either by the officials or by mutual agreement between the site manager and coaches, with neither party able to override the other’s decision. As a guiding principle, follow the rule: "If you can hear it, clear it."
